Respite

Yesterday, I read a profound poem, Though There Are Torturers by Michael Coady. It was difficult in its subject but beautiful in its simplicity.

Respite

Though there are torturers in the world
There are also musicians.
from Though There Are Torturers by Michael Coady

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

All praises
for the pause in our sorrows
when     on uncertain legs
a toddler throws himself
at your leg
his face sticky with juice
but also beatific
in the moment with you
before he     with arms
flung wide in blessing
moves to the woman
next to you     her face
already opening
to this incarnation
