I took a photo of flowers as I am wont to do. Simple flowers, violet with purple streaks daubed here and there along the petals. A spare touch of yellow at their white throats.

They remind me of dervishes and J. D. McClatchy’s gorgeous poem, Dervish.  They remind me of what is important.

a white cap
tipped yellow
violet swirling
in and out
purple limned
laudingly raised
the drummed air

a spindle
wheeling itself
at heart   reaching
in worship
into rapture
a greater light
