All Praises

Bad things are going to happen. (Thanks to Ellen Bass, for that line and her fantastic poem, Relax.)  You can dodge some of the bad things, but there’s no avoiding all of them.

But, good things are going to happen, too.

Celebrating Failure

come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.
–from won’t you celebrate with me by Lucille Clifton

1965
a catalog of close escapes
thalidomide for her morning sickness
being born at 26 weeks
over oxygenated incubators

1975 – 2014
a grave foot in, a grave foot out
unexplained drops:
anemia, vertigo
syncopes

2015
in a blink of an eye
six deaths
(but six resurrections)
apnea and asystole

living to tell the tale
