Conversion

I made notes about tonight’s poem: use double-dutch without glasses as the metaphor. Of course, somehow I forgot to jot down what my subject would be. Ha!

So, I decided it was time for another visit to The Paris Review’s Poetry RX column and Claire Schwartz (@23cschwartz) for glorious language and a good start on this poem.

Conversion

here we are in our bodies
electric in the messiness
of chemistry, fluids, and spirit
we reclaim our tangibility
in false fits and starts, casting
knowledge into vapor
into poetry masquerading
as therapist
as medication
as the scaffold
of interior fortification
we miss center
in the conversion
forgetting this works only
alongside other forms of support
the answer is toward
mapping the distance to
someone else, greeting each other
instead of  blindly running
remember there is something
beautiful in those crossings
in beginning where we are
