Ever Present

In the midst of joy, sadness.

 

 

Present

 

Her voice wavered, a dip
after a cheery greeting.

Conversation wavered too
a derailment into death.

There in the middle of day
bright with sun, was sadness.

We stood caught in transit: me
arriving, she a step from leaving.

Our words heavy with what we cannot
let go and that which will not let us.
