I’m re-reading “Let ‘Em Take Their Best Shot.”, which is a chapter in Austin Kleon’s book, Show Your Work. It’s all about taking risks and building up skin thick enough to weather criticism. Because we all know building a creative life will engender criticism…and not all of it will be constructive.
All of which reminded me of an encounter I had today. It revolved around creating something from scratch and learning to be fearless in doing so.
**Psst. Want your name written into a poem? Based on your idea?**
Well, send me an email with the subject line “Here’s an idea for a poem”. If I use your idea as a writing prompt, I’ll mention you in the poem’s epigraph. And you’ll also get to choose one piece of writing/literature related swag – t-shirts, buttons, books (blank and otherwise), etc. – I’ve got stashed as a Thank You gift for helping me write a poem.
of the ages
of the Universe
lady of all you survey
a walk is no longer common
your stride is as regal does
a turn of hand brings fortunes
placed at your feet
your voice knits all into being
