The Day Before Morning

Tonight’s the last night of my vacation. I don’t wanna go back to work.

Or I should say, because of my jury duty summons tomorrow, I don’t wanna go for jury duty.

To distract myself from the thought of either one, I’m trying something new. I’m collecting writing prompts from you, my readers.

Got a suggestion for a poem’s subject? Send me an email with the subject line “Poem subject suggestion”. If your suggestion is chosen, I’ll mention you in the poem’s epigraph. And you’ll also get to choose one piece of writing/literature related swag – t-shirt, buttons, blank book, magazine, book, etc. – I’ve got stashed as a Thank You gift for helping me write a poem.

The Day Before Morning

the night comes
I am still here
in the room with windows
in another room, our room
the bed is unmade
pillows sturdy islands
amid the cooling swirls
of linens and throws
duvet and tissues
outside beyond your garden
night’s gray veil settles
outside cars speed
to their own destinations
