Necessary Magic

I love found poems. They illustrate best the idea that poetry is everywhere in everyday interactions. I’ve “found” the following poem in the Bomb Magazine article, Trust Poetry: Ada Limón Interviewed by Lauren LeBlanc.

Necessary Magic

after Ada Limón
the world needs us poets
we griots and prophets
sons and daughters all
amalgams of humility and hubris

there is so much
unsayable in this world
crying out to be named
and in the naming to be freed

we enter the collective now
the poem with our own breath
knowing someone else has gone
is going through the same thing

for poets know, we wield
the only art with divine breath built into it
conjuring an improbable tenderness
in the world to free us all
