In Lieu Of

All day, I juggled idea after idea for the today’s poem. I had such a preponderance of ideas I figured I didn’t need to write them down.

Ah, such hubris.

In Lieu of a Poem of Substance

All that’s left is a hibiscus
blush pink, throat darker still
waving just at eye level

her five-fingered stamen
outstretched in a floral high-five

Mind on shopping: shirts and shorts
blouses and generous-bottomed pants
I almost march past her

her rain-kissed petals
poised in an alluring arc

face turned to the best light
                    Ready for my close-up.
I am snared, follow her lead
and reach for my camera
